Jorge Lorenzo continued to lead the way ahead of Marquez and Iannone in third place  Jorge Lorenzo ended the first day of practice at the Circuito de jerez on top of the timing sheets with the Spaniard fending off Honda's Marc Marquez in the second free practice session while Andrea Iannone leapfrogged his Ducati teammate Andrea Dovisioso into third position. Lorenzo's best time of 1m 39.794 came in this morning's opening practice session with higher track temperatures affecting grip somewhat this afternoon.
