Espargaro to undergo surgery after Le Mans crash

Suzuki rider Aleix Espargaro will undergo surgery on Tuesday morning following his crash during practice for last weekend’s Moto GP race at Le Mans. The Spaniard damaged his right hand in a huge high-side during FP3 on Saturday morning, but was nonetheless able to qualify 10th later in the day and start Sunday’s race, from which he retired in the opening laps with a clutch problem. But further examination on Monday revealed that Espargaro had in fact suffered a rupture of the collateral ligament of his right thumb, necessitating surgery that will take place at 11am on Tuesday in Barcelona's Clinica Dexeus.
